Best Gathering Profession While Leveling: Skinning

Stop working on leveling you leatherworking. Farm the hell out of nagrand. People still level you know Leatherworking is the easiest profession. I have it to If your still using heavy leather then skin where you find it. Knothide leather is easier where ur currently lvling is ur still in outland of couse.

Sell what you gather on the AH and don’t waste your time leveling a ‘crafting’ profession. Save all the money you earn for your epic flier and for leveling a crafting profession when you are ready. Don’t waste money on items, enchants or gems while leveling. If you want to take a more laid back approach, I’d go with another gathering profession mining or herbalism. Your disenchanting idea is good too, but you need to level up your skill to do. You can’t disenchant high level items with low level enchanting. I had a max level skinner and leather worker well into level 80, and never made any real profit over the time spent getting the materials to make items.

This is because most items that people will want require relatively expensive components such as Arctic Fur, Frozen Orbs, Crusader Orbs. Like other gear crafting professions blacksmithing, tailoringmost people seeking gear — even armor or leg kits — are going to go to someone with their own purchased materials, making minimal money in terms of tips. Likewise, skinning is not very profitable, although selling the leather materials you get from skinning will generally make you more money than trying to craft something out of.

Since you want to keep skinning, I would recommend mining or herbalism. Both are great gathering professions. Mining will take more effort to get to your level, but raw ore and gems are always hard to come by and therefore sell. Herbalism tends to be more plentiful, but can also make a substantial profit, especially as it is used primarily for alchemy, meaning there is always a high demand for goods for raiders.

While enchanting mats are very profitable, there are two things to keep in mind. The first is that in order to disenchant items, you must work your enchanting skill up by enchanting, which comes at a significant cost of materials to you — either by paying for them, or by taking the long process of farming them all. The second is that unlike a gathering profession, obtaining disenchantable items is a gamble — it depends on your luck with drops, or your willingness to marginalize your profit by buying items on the auction house to disenchant.

You can’t rely on an hour of farming for profit with enchanting; you can with gathering professions. I have 2 alchemists, both transmutation spec’ed, and a jewelcrafter. Now admittedly the JC was a little expensive to level, but I’m making so much gold from just logging on.

To put it in perspective, I only recently took interest in this, maybe weeks, and from solely selling the gems i’ve crafted and cut, I’ve made enough for epic flying on two characters. I’d stick with LW. When you lw is actually at a higher lvl you can make simple things such as leg armors that well for 75 to gold.

You can also make your own gear. I have 2 miners that mine but I don’t sell any of the ores because saronite which is mostly what I end up with sells for basically nothing and titanium is hard to come by. But if you want money go to mining and keep skinning. If you want try that herb profession and harvest them in wintergrasp when you hit in well thats what i think.

Plus sorry about forgetting the name of the herb thing! But for good money I suggest Herbalism and Skinning, check your realm though, see what the demand is, that will really benefit you. You won’t make a lot of money, but you can make your own ammo and have some extra perks.
